I ran the Firecracker 5000 5k Walk/Run, which started on July 3 at 11:55pm … quite the way to ring in the 4th of July!! I had found this race last week and asked my friend Kate if she wanted to run it with me. She agreed and also recruited her roommate and another friend.

I was planning on just running — but they were planning something a little different. They were scheming.

Anne and Kate getting ready to pounce …

what is going on here??!?

What are you doing to me?? Blue eye shadow?

Yikes! We’re very patriotic!

Team America! Yes, we’re wearing capes.
Seemed like a good idea at the time, but running with something tied around your neck
is both annoying and really hot!

It was a fun run … I got an okay time (31:02 — a straight ten minute mile). I want to run the marathon at about a 10 minute pace, so I have a lot of work to do!! A 5k is 3.1 miles, so I need to improve A LOT if I’m going to do 26.2 at the same pace. I may just need to tuck my competitive side away and realize that it’s not about time, and the fact that I finish is good enough.
